Reform Pilates Pregnancy & Post-partum Training Course

 Nov 22nd 2026

This upcoming full-day training course provides an evidence-based guide to teaching Reformer Pilates safely and confidently during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Designed for Pilates instructors, the course combines current research and international exercise guidelines with practical Reformer and mat work, so you can support clients from early pregnancy right through to their return to exercise after birth.

This course will be taught by Caoimhe Murray who works a Womens Health Physiotherapist at Reform Physiotherapy.  Caoimhe is passionate about helping women stay active, confident, and pain free at all stages of life.

Course Content and Objectives

The training covers the full journey from pregnancy through the postpartum period, with an emphasis on individualised, symptom-led exercise rather than rigid rules. Key areas of focus include:

Understanding Pregnancy: The stages of pregnancy and the normal physiological and musculoskeletal changes that occur, and why they matter when selecting and modifying exercises.

Screening and Safety: Using validated screening tools (GAQ-P and GAQ-PP) alongside daily check-ins, recognising contraindications and red flags, and knowing when to refer to another healthcare professional.

Current Exercise Guidelines: Applying the latest international guidelines for exercise during pregnancy and postpartum, moving away from fear-based restriction towards confident, appropriately modified movement.

Common Presentations: Exercise considerations for low back pain, pelvic girdle pain, diastasis recti abdominis, urinary incontinence, pelvic heaviness, carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist and thumb pain, caesarean and perineal scar discomfort, and breastfeeding.

Special Considerations: Twin and multiple pregnancy, fertility treatment (IVF), hyperemesis gravidarum, gestational diabetes, and hypertension and pre-eclampsia.

Return to Exercise After Birth: Recovery following vaginal and caesarean birth, with progression guided by symptoms rather than arbitrary timelines.

Practical Reformer and Mat Work: Adapting Reformer and mat exercises using props such as the fit ball, wedge and box, with sample class plans for pregnancy and postpartum clients.

Case Studies and Communication: Working through real-world client scenarios and using positive, empowering language that builds confidence rather than fear.

Please note: this course does not qualify participants to diagnose, assess or treat medical conditions.
