Physiotherapy for Golfers

Reform Physiotherapy and Pilates Malahide

At Reform Physiotherapy and Pilates Malahide, we offer a Golf specific Assessment with a Chartered Physiotherapist.

Stiffness, asymmetries, weakness and pain will influence your golf performance and make you more susceptible to overuse injuries. Sari is a Chartered Physiotherapist and certified strength and conditioning coach with a specialist interest in golfer’s performance. She has an in-depth knowledge of the physical demands on golfer’s- from their swing, to carrying a golf bag and long durations of time spent walking and standing. She will do a specialist screening to assess:

  • Posture
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Previous injuries
  • Core strength
  • Symmetry
  • Cardiovascular health

All the above can directly impact how you perform on the golf course and in your everyday life. Here are just a few examples:

Symmetry: if you have an asymmetry in your back rotation (e.g you have greater thoracic rotation on the right than left side), this can really affect your swing. This could in turn cause back pain due to over rotating on one side or being restricted on the other side.

Core strength: golfers need huge amounts of core strength to rotate, extend and flex the spine rapidly to produce force during a golf swing. If you have a weak core, it could be affecting your posture, endurance, golf swing and accuracy when golfing. This would also make you more prone to injury, especially back pain.

Strength: If you have poor shoulder stability and weak gluteal muscles, especially on your trail leg you may not be able to produce optimal force for an effective swing and in turn leading to shoulder, neck, low back, hip or knee pain.

Contact Sari at 086 3582911 to book in for a golfers screening, and be proactive about improving your golfing and preventing injuries that could keep you off the golf course.
